10.22.21 OUtside Monument Valley

I have most of the afternoon to spend exploring outside of the park. So I decided to drive up to Mexican Hat in Utah to see what was there. Not much really.

Then I decided to see if I could drive out to Piute Farms overlooking the San Juan River. However, I never did figure out how to get there. Instead I ended up driving on some back dirt roads and turning around when I figured I had missed a turn somewhere. It was an interesting way to spend the afternoon.

10.21.21 Navajo National Monument

As I sat in a long line of cars waiting for construction traffic, I noticed the sign for the Navajo National Monument 1/2 mile away. I had service on my phone, so I looked it up to see if I should make a slight detour, I had time. Turns out it looked like something to check out. So I made the turn once traffic strated moving again and do not regret the decision.

10.21.21 Drive to Monument Valley

©10.21.21 Drive to Monument Valley - I made a u-turn to check this out. Unfortunately there was no sign to indicate it was here. It is a total gem along the road. Turns out there were more along the way, but I only saw them as I went zipping by too late to stop. It’s too bad they are not better marked.

10.21.21 Horseshoe Bend, Az

As I head to Monument Valley I make a slight detour on my way out of Page. I stop at Horseshoe Bend. If you look closely in some of the shots you can see kayaks on the water. This bend in the Colorado River is very large and deep.

Originally I was set to camp on the North Rim. However after seeing snow on the ground in some places and knowing the low overnight was set to be 28 degrees, I opted to drive to Page, Az for the night.
